What is Narcosis? How MSDS Can Help
Being in a state of unconsciousness triggered by a chemical substance like drugs or anesthesia is the brief definition of Narcosis. A common method of inducing narcosis at a workplace is the inhalation of certain chemicals at a poor-ventilated area. As an example is the exposure of a worker to substances like chloroform and diethyl ether, which are handled in medical environments or anesthesia manufacturers. In certain conditions, even nitrogen at a certain amount can cause workers to fall under narcosis. The proper implementation or familiarity with msds or material safety data sheets and its corresponding training are not only a law-binding practice, but a measure that is undertaken by all companies that handle such chemical substances. Employees will become more aware of safety measures to reduce or remove associated health risks. Proper protective gear such as respirators and masks should be given consideration to, in addition to the placement of fume hoods in enclosed places to promote adequate ventilation.
